New Version - Languages and Short URLs:

We’ve updated My Story with a few bugs squashed, but more importantly we’ve added some great enhancements:

Now localized in Spanish, French and Swedish
Urls are now shortened automatically using our custom msty.me URL, so no more giant ugly links!
Copy to clipboard on share is a nice little addon
Finally, we tweaked some icons and updated the drawing engine, so hopefully it’s a little smoother.

My Story 1.4 Update - Now Speedier!:

We’ve updated My Story and it’s up on the App Store. We’ve made a few updates that everybody will love:

Updated drawing engine to speed up and smooth out the performance tremendously.
Retina graphics on 3rd and 4th generation iPad!
We tweaked the workflow a bit so when you return from one of your books to the main “My Books” section you stay on the book you just edited instead of going to the first book in the list.
And a few other bug and usability enhancements.

Teachers around the world are using My Story in the classroom in amazing ways. To celebrate the start of a new school year, we are giving My Story away FREE for three days starting Wednesday August 15th through Friday August 17th, just in time for the new year!

Teachers love using My Story in the classroom because students become authors and gain a whole new sense of empowerment by exercising their creativity. Teachers also enjoy how easy it is to incorporate My Story into lesson plans and classroom activities.

My Story is perfect for young students because it offers a simple set of features: drawing, voice recording, photos, and text for each page of an unlimited number of books. Kids can rearrange their pages, use 20 different colors with three different brushes, and start/stop recording with the tap of a button.

We’re excited to announce the release of My Story 1.3.1. This release contains several improvements that make it simpler to create and share your books with friends and family. Launch the App Store app on your iPad and update today. If you’re new to My Story, download 1.3.1 here.

Sharing

We believe that sharing books with My Story should be simple. Today we’ve taken a few more steps in that direction by improving our share with email feature. Now there is no limit to your book size, which makes email sharing more reliable than before. Books are uploaded privately and securely to the My Story website, after which they can be downloaded by the people you share with.

Teachers, we’ve heard your request to share stories as PDF documents. We could not fit that into this release but look for that feature later this year.

iBooks

We fixed an issue with how a book containing special characters in any of its pages or its title wouldn’t open properly in iBooks. To open your stories in iBooks simply select a book, tap “Share”, then tap “Open In…” and select iBooks. If you don’t have iBooks, it can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

Other Improvements

We increased the font size for page text to make it easier for kids to read. We also improved the deletion and rearrangement of pages so that you would have better control on creating great stories.

What’s Next
We are currently working on giving you the ability to incorporate text within a page. With that, you’ll be able to select from a dozen colors for your text plus have control over size and placement. This feature will give young story creators more control to create amazing stories.

As of today, My Story - Book Maker for Kids has been downloaded over 25,000 times by parents and teachers across the globe on the iTunes App Store. It’s hard to believe a year ago our creative director Brian Vanaski had an epiphany that would end up becoming My Story.

Brian’s younger sister was getting frustrated trying to tell a story because she couldn’t yet write very well but had plenty of ideas. Fumbling with paper and different writing tools, she had trouble organizing everything and keeping the story together from event to event. In that moment Brian realized creating an app for the iPad would help her—and other children—immensely.

Six months later, in August 2011, the app was in the App Store and we’ve been pouring our hearts into it every since.

On behalf of the My Story team we want to sincerely thank you for your support, ideas, and amazing stories. We have a lot planned in the coming months, so stay tuned and keep on creating and sharing your stories.

March is exciting. Whether you love college basketball, or can’t wait to see what’s coming up for the next version of the iPad, we’re excited with you.

We’re also excited about giving My Story away for FREE for the entire weekend to celebrate our recent release of version 1.3. The free weekend starts Friday March 2nd and continues through Sunday March 4th.

My Story 1.3 - Now with Photos!

In addition to drawing, voice recording, and typing, and sharing, My Story now lets young authors include pictures in their books. Here’s how it works:

Take a picture right from the app and make it the background of your page.
Choose a picture from the photo library to serve as a page’s background image.
If you’re looking for a splash of color, choose one of the background colors available, too.

This update, available now in the App Store, makes it easy for children to share stories of their daily life and bolster speaking and writing skills by starting with the environment around them.

Here are story ideas to make full use of the feature right now:

“My Family” - Take pictures of all your family members (and pets), then create a page for each family member, import the appropriate photo, and record your voice to say something special about each one. Share the book with the family and treasure it forever!
“My Friends” - Take pictures of all your friends and use the app to talk about the best things you like about each one—and maybe draw a fake mustache or two for good measure!
“My Home” & “My Room” - Use My Story to take people on a voice-guided virtual tour of the important space of your daily life.
“My Classroom” - Use My Story to help process through what makes your learning environment special and unique.

It’s our biggest update yet! My Story 1.2 (iTunes link) adds a few much requested features, including brand new sharing options and an improved reading experience.

Here’s what’s new:

Sharing Stories via Email

Now you can email your stories as ePub-formatted books that can be viewed flawlessly on iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches, as well as on many eReaders and free desktop apps like Calibre and Adobe Digital Editions.

You’re one tap away from sharing your story with anyone! The ePub is attached and can be opened by another iOS device quickly and easily.

How to Share Via Email

To use the new sharing features, just follow these simple steps:

From the My Books view tap the new Share icon.
Tap “Email Book” to open a new email
Type the address you’d like to send your book to and tap Send. To learn more about our recommended ePUB reader, read our support page.

Share With iBooks

Now you can open your stories in iBooks. Add your My Story books to your library and take full advantage of all the iBooks features such as flipping through pages with a swipe or a tap, bookmarking, and adding notes to your favorite passages. The best part? iBooks fully supports audio from your story along with images and text.

Parents, grandparents, friends, and teachers now have a simple, rich way to view their children’s and students’ stories.

How to Share to iBooks on your iPad

To use the new sharing features, just follow these simple steps:

From the My Books view tap the new share icon.
Tap “Open In” and then “iBooks”.
Your story will be automatically added to your iBooks library and ready for viewing.

See your stories in your iBooks library, complete with audio, illustration, and text.

Take advantage of rich ePub support in iBooks. Tap the play button in the black bar to hear your audio!

Share with any ePub-compatible reader

You can also open your books in your favourite reader, as long as it’s compatible with the ePub format. However, we currently recommend iBooks for a full and rich experience, and we are adding support for other readers, so stay tuned and check our support page.

Minor Improvements

We’ve added a new “ABC” button to add or edit page text. We’ve also made the reading experience simpler by taking out the ability to add text and audio in Read mode.

My Story is built around the concept of a book and promotes literacy and creativity so that children and parents can collaborate together.

My Story is a great way for parents and kids to use the iPad together to develop art and literacy skills that are so crucial to unlocking the power of imagination.
